BJJ European Championships Lisbon, Portugal 2011 Travel Info

Hi guys,

I know it is a long way off but I have started sorting out the travel arrangements for next year and I have just booked my flights.

Flights:

London Gatwick (North Terminal) to Lisbon

Dep 26 January 2011 16:35

Arr 26 January 2011 19:15

Flight 8719

Check in opens 26 January 2011 14:35

Check in closes 26 January 2011 15:55

Lisbon to London Gatwick (North Terminal)

Dep 30 January 2011 19:55

Arr 30 January 2011 22:30

Flight 8720

Check in opens 30 January 2011 17:55

Check in closes 30 January 2011 19:15

Depending on what credit card/debit card you book with these flights should cost under £65 return (mine cost £58), however they may go up nearer the time.

The reason I have book the later flight back on the Sunday is so that we can watch the Black Belts fight and, if he decides to compete Arlans getting his European gold medal :-)

Accommodation:

I have found a Hotel recommended by guys who compete last year that is just 10 minutes walk from the venue and cost for 4 nights 200 euros for a twin room.

For more info see here http://www.hotelaliflisbon.com/

The tournament runs over four days, Thursday to Sunday and all belts, ages and weight classes are welcome to compete

If you are not fighting but still wish to come along all support is welcome, as although BJJ is perceived as an individual sport the reality is that we are all only as good as our training partners and the support we get from friends & family the allow us to train this crazy sport.

Give me a shout if you need any more info.

Cheers

Enzo

Whats next? How about indoor rock climbing?

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the feed back on the what event/activity you guys suggested that could supplement our BJJ training.

One of the Hoddesdon Guys, Simon, suggested Rock Climbing, due to the grip and core strength required and this morning I have secured a deal with the Harlow Indoor Rock Climbing Wall for a group of 10 of us to climb.

No experience necessary, the climbing session will last for 1 hour  30 minutes, all the equipment will be included, all you will need is some comfortable clothes.

This will of course be free for monthly members and £15 for non members.

If you are interested please email me at info@arlanssiqueirabrazilianjiujitsu.co.uk and let me know if there are any Mondays or Thursdays coming up in Movember or December that you can't do.

Cheers

Movember Jiu Jitsu Team

Hi,

I’m joining the growing club of modern gentlemen who believe in the virtues of fine moustachery, immaculate grooming and growing a moustache for Movember. I am looking for like-minded ladies and gentlemen to join my team to change the face of men’s health.

Movember is about raising funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. One man dies every hour from the disease in the UK.

It’s time we did something about this.

The more people we get on board, the more lives we can impact. I am asking you to join the team and either grow a moustache as a Mo Bro, or join as a Mo Sista to help us on our journey.

To join my Movember team go to http://uk.movember.com/register/112120 and follow the steps. Once registered you'll be sent all the information you need to raise funds and start growing as part of my Movember team.

To see the impact Movember citizens are already making, follow this link http://uk.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

I hope you join me to change the face of men’s health.

What next?

Hi guys,

In my view bjj training can be split in several elements:

Techniques
Strength & Conditioning
Flexibility
Nutrition

Adding the fact that I think it is crucial to continue to provide monthly members benefits for being part of our team, I just want to ask following on from the kettle bellspilates and nutritional seminar what would you guys find useful to support your Jiu Jitsu development?

Please leave your comments on in the comments section below.

100 Days To The 2011 European Championships

In 100 days time the 2011 BJJ European Championships will begin in Lisbon, Portugal. For four days BJJ fighters from White to Black Belts will compete to see who is the best.

This is a great opportunity to build on the success that we have achieved in our academy.

Everyone have a think about this, flights are round about £50 at the moment, and something to experience as both a fighter and a supporter.

Hertfordshire Monthly Members Please Read

Hi guys,

Just a quick note to let you all know that I will be out of my office for the whole of next week so I will not be responding to emails or updating you guys on news etc for the week. I will be available on my mobile, although you may need to leave a message.

Here are a few things bits of news:

- Strength & Conditioning Saturdays 08:30am to 9:00am - Although the 6 week kettle bell program has finished Simon has very kindly agreed to continue this session up to the Brazilian JIu JItsu European Championship the 27th January 2010. This session will continue to be free for all monthly members, and just £10 for anyone else that wished to attend.

Simon is also running a Boxing Fitness (18:00hrs to 18:45hrs) & Kettle bell class (18:45hrs to 19:30hrs) on a Tuesday evenings. Normal price is £7.5 per class/£12 for both, but he has offered a discount to all monthly members so the price is just £6 per class/£10 for both.

- Kettle Bell Course -Thank you to all the guys that attended, both Simon and I were really appreciate your efforts and were super pleased with the results you all achieved.

- Pilates. There will be no more Pilates class as I think we need a 6 week run at it to determine the value of this to BJJ, and unfortunately we haven't been able to do this for various logistical reasons.

THE ENGLISH OPEN BJJ CHAMPIONSHIP 6th & 7th NOVEMBER 2010 (in Dartford) - I have spoken to Arlans and he is happy for you all to compete in the upcoming tournament. To support you all he has very kindly agreed to allow all BJJ Hertfordshire Monthly members that are competing to train in his BJJ class in Edmonton for free up to the tournament - this essentially gives ypu access to BJJ training 7 days a week ! I train all sessions with Arlans, so please call me if you want a lift.

- Nutritional Seminar - hope you all enjoyed it, I will be posting videos etc from it over the next few weeks.

Cheers

Enzo

Pilates for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Home Work From Session 2

Hi guys,

Here is the home work from yesterdays BJJ Pilates class.

I am not going to lie pilates hurts (me)  BAD, and is, at times, super frustrating but my posture has dramatically improved, but I am interested in what effect this has on my performance in bjj training, although this is super challenging to measure.

The idea with the pilates is to build the strength of core muscle to improve power and operate more efficiently. At present I have achieve conscious incompetence, i.e. I know wen i am not engaging my core abdominal muscles, and I do feel a difference.

I have been told that there are no short term wins with this, pilates has to be incorporated into your daily routines, I just want to see if this is actually worth the time and effort.

I will be writing a full review, (as with the BJJ kettle bells) once the 5 week trial has finished.

Tonight - Boxing, Pilates & Kettle Bells

Morning guys,

Just thought I would give you a quick update on what is happening tonight.

Simon is starting a boxing class and kettlebells class and has very kindly provided a discount to all BJJ Hertfordshire monthly members, £6 per session (instead of £7.50), or £10 if you do both classes (instead of £12). The boxing class will be between 6pm and 6:45pm and the Kettle Bells will be 6:45pm to 7:30pm.

PLEASE NOTE - Due to the runaway success of the free (monthly members) Saturday morning BJJ Kettle bellsBJJ strength and conditioning sessions, they will  be continuing to at least January 2011 up to the BJJ European Championships (i will be sending more info about this tomorrow)

BJJ Pilates class will be 7.30pm to 8.30pm (please note the change in time from 8pm start), and will be FREE to all BJJ Hertfordshire monthly members, so come and give it a try if you are free. Please note the Hoddesdon Pilates class is open to 'non BJJ people' too, and costs a introductory £5 per session.

I will be attending all sessions as a student, hopefully see as many of you as possible tonight.
