September 2010 BJJ Class Plan for BJJ Hertfordshire
Hi guys,
Hope you are all having a great bank holiday weekend.
Just wanted to quickly thank everyone that has come down and trained with me at BJJ Hertfordshire's base in Hoddesdon - all the new guys are making spectacular progress and are looking great for just 4 weeks of bJJ classes. Special thank you to Arlans and all the Edmonoton members for coming down and training - having you there has really helped with everyones progression.
Here is what I plan to cover in September - hopefully Arlans will be visiting again, so that schedule may change lightly. I am going to continue keeping the Saturday morning session (9am-10am) to review basics for all the new members.
Thanks again for all your support guys - the class is growing faster than I expected and a big part of that is down to everyone attending.
PS Please remember this Saturday we are starting the 6 week free BJJ specific Kettle bell program between 8.30am and 9am - we have shot a info video that I will be sending out today.

Free 6 week BJJ Specific Kettlebell Strength & Conditioning Program
Hi guys,
I am looking for some volunteers to take part in a 6 week BJJ specific Strength and Conditioning Kettlebell program at our venue in Hoddesdon. The program will start on Saturday the 4th September 2010 and run for 6 weeks. Each session with last 30 minutes and run from 08.30am to 9.00am, be run by a qualifies personal trainer (not Enzo) that hourly rate is £60 per hour. This is great opportunity to get seriously fit.
This program will be free, however we will need you to agree to a few things:
-Measurement of your body fat, muscle mass and other key performance indicators before during and at the end of the 6 weeks.
-Commitment to attending all of the sessions
-Details (text,video and audio) of your workouts and performance being published on our website and also used in promotional material for future commercial products and course that we develop/run
Please note we will refer to you by your first name and age, however we will not require and personal details such as date of birth, surname etc.
We are aiming to dramatically increase your BJJ performance by getting you guys to do sport specific workouts. We are then aiming to run our courses based on the feedback and results you achive that we will charge for.

Tonight's BJJ Class - The Triangle Choke & Defences
Hope you all had a good weekend.
Tonight we are going to be looking at the triangle choke and some of the corresponding defenses.
In addition to this I will also be showing how the triangle choke can link to the arm bar - I think it is really important to make sure that we start to be able to link BJJ moves as you can escape from almost any BJJ technique, so it is important to be able to transition from one to another.
Don't worry if you missed some of the other classes, the the teachings from this class will be stand alone, however those that have attended the other sessions will start to see how it all links together.

BJJ Technique Videos From BJJ Classes 02/08/2010 to 07/08/2010
Morning Guys,
Sorry about the delay in getting this to you.
John and I shot these videos last night going showing you the techniques we went through last week.
Scissor Sweep - Just remember to make sure you pull your opponent towards you before you sweep him or hr, this will allow you to disrupt their centre of balance and make it possible for you to sweep without using strength and hence saving energy.
Choke From Closed Guard- with this technque it is key that you break your oppenents posture i.e. get them close to you. A tip to doing this is to bring your knees into your chest whilst pulling them towards you with your grips.
Mount Escape - The key 2 points with this technique is to isolate one side of your opponents body (arm and feet) and then move them forward over your head BEFORE you roll them to the side. Extra tip, be careful of your opponent applying the above choke as you roll them (telephone defence)
Arm Bar From Closed Guard - again with this bjj technique it is super important to break your opponents posture and also make sure you rotate your body so that your are at a 90 degree angle.
Arm Bar Defence - the key point here is to stack your opponents as soon as they threaten the arm bar and then make sure you keep applying downward pressure - if your arm is bent they can't arm bar you.
And finally.....here is the sequence put together, note how bjj links techniques together, you never miss a move you just set your self up for another.

UPDATE Paul is OK and back to work tomorrow after his injury at last Thursday's BJJ Training
Hi guys,
Just thought I would give you all a quick update on how Paul is after him sustained his neck injury at last Thursdays BJJ class.
Paul is fine, he was kept in hospital as a precaution, however all the tests have come back fine and he is returning to work tomorrow and, typically, he tells me that he will be training again this Thursday :-)
I just want to say thank you to all the staff at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield who did a great job with a potentially serious neck injury.

Review if the Weeks BJJ Techniques in Saturdays Class
Hi guys,
At this Saturdays BJJ class (10am-12pm)I will be reviewing the weeks techniques - we slightly deviated from the plan and didn't do guard passing this week, so we will be going over the Scissor Sweep, Choke from closed guard, Mount escape, Arm bar from closed Guard and the ARm bar defence.
I am going to shoot a video going over these techniques tonight and will post it this weekend.
We will also introduce your guys to 'mobilisation', this is where you can transition to various positions whilst on top of your opponent whilst continuing to apply a downwards pressure. This is something that Arlans particularly likes, here is a videos of him explaining and demonstrating this.
Also this Saturday between 9am and 10am, i will be running an absolute beginners class which will act as aan intro to BJJ with no sparring- this is ideal for your friends that aren't sure if BJJ is for them and want to have a try.
